About This Course

Introduction

Welcome to Ubuntu Linux Fundamentals

This course is for people who are interested in learning about Ubuntu Linux, a popular, easy to use, open source operating system.

You don’t have to have much knowledge to complete this course.

Ideally, you know what a computer is and know your way around one.

You may be brand new to Linux though.

The course is made up of many video lessons. Almost all have additional material for you to download.

Each section has quizzes to reinforce your learning.

The course starts off with some background information. What Linux is, what open source means, and how to download Ubuntu.

You’ll also learn how you can install Ubuntu without having to overwrite your existing operating system or find additional hardware to run it on.

You’ll do this by using VirtualBox, free virtualization software, to run Ubuntu on.

Virtualization is important in work and at home if you like to experiment and try things.

Once you’ve installed your operating system, you’ll learn how to manage it.

You’ll understand how to use the Graphical User Interface on Ubuntu Desktop and the Command Line for Desktop and Server.

You’ll be able to leverage powerful tools like BASH scripting and scheduled tasks to automate your work.
